A Dog Risks Its Life to Save Kittens

This is a lovely story with a happy ending.

Firefighters found this dog, named Leo, guarding four kittens in a cardboard box, that were trapped in a fire. The fire happened in a house, in Melbourne, Australia. Despite the heat and the smoke, the dog didn't leave the kittens until they were all rescued by firefighters.

How to Chase Away a Shark? Poke it in the Eye!

An Australian swimmer claims he managed to survive a great white shark attack, by poking the shark in the eye.

Jason Cull, the swimmer, was apparently seized by the left leg as he was swimming at Middleton Beach in southwestern Australia on Saturday.

“Initially I thought it was a dolphin but when it came up and banged straight into me, I realized what it was,” said Cull.

According to Cull, he struggled with the huge shark, and somehow managed to find its eye and poke it with his fingers. The shark then turned away and went back to sea. Cull's leg was seriously mauled, but he underwent surgery and since he is talking about it in the media, I guess he'll make it.

A teenage surfer was killed in a shark attack last month, bringing the death toll in Australia to 12 since 2000, according to US database International Shark Attack File.

First Pictures from the Anti-Scientology Demonstrations

The Anonymous protests against Scientology have began. Today, February 10th, is supposed to be a great day for the underground organization. A global protest against the church of Scientology is supposed to break out.

It started in Australia (click here for the pictures) - about 150 people gathered at the Church of Scientology building in the Sydney CBD this morning, most of them carrying picket signs and wearing costumes or masks. The demonstrators handed out flyers accusing the church of financially exploiting its followers and suppressing criticism.

The Church of Scientology's Oceania branch spoke against the actions of Anonymous, described the group as "cyber-terrorists" and accused them of hate crimes.
