Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Harry Potter begins his sixth year at Hogwarts. A new teacher arrives at Hogwarts, Horace Slughorn, who has quite a few secrets of his own, and at first glance actually appears evil.

Harry gets a Potions book which used to be belong to a mysterious "Half-Blood Prince". Harry finds that the Half-Blood Prince's ancient scribbles are written along the margins of almost every page, giving him advice on how to improve greatly on his Potions work, and also teaching him a few helpful (and dangerous) spells.

Harry is starting private lessons with Dumbledore, during which Harry learns the dark secrets of Voldemort's (AKA Tom Riddle) past, hoping that they could use these secrets to find a way to defeat him.

Draco Malfoy is acting weird and suspicious, sneaking around the school, apparently doing Voldemort's bidding. Harry follows Draco around, in an effort to discover his dark secrets.

Ron has found a new girlfriend, Lavender Brown, a perky (if not obnoxious) Gryffindor student, and Hermione is envious. Ron and Hermione's friendship takes a toll throughout the school year and Harry, as usual, is stuck in the middle. Harry, meanwhile, is facing a romantic dilemma of his own: he realizes he is falling for his best friend's sister, Ginny Weasley, who is unfortunately dating Harry's classmate, Dean Thomas.

The darkness of Voldemort's impending rise to power is always apparent. The ending is dramatic and tragic, leaving many questions until the last chapter of the Harry Potter series.

A Dog Risks Its Life to Save Kittens

This is a lovely story with a happy ending.

Firefighters found this dog, named Leo, guarding four kittens in a cardboard box, that were trapped in a fire. The fire happened in a house, in Melbourne, Australia. Despite the heat and the smoke, the dog didn't leave the kittens until they were all rescued by firefighters.

Cuban Taekwondo Athlete Kicks a Referee in the Olympics

Cuban Taekwondo athlete, Angel Matos, faces a lifetime ban after kicking a referee in the face following his disqualification in a bronze-medal match at the Beijing Games. Video at the bottom of the post.

Matos was actually winning the match 3-2 against Kazakhstan's Arman Chilmanov. In the second round when he fell to the mat after being hit. Fighters get one minute to receive medical attention, but Matos was disqualified when his time ran out. Matos wasn't too happy about it, so he attacked the referee.

Although the arena announcer said Matos and his coach were banned effective immediately, due process must be followed before officially banning the two.

Matos won the gold medal in this division — the men's over 80-kg — at the 2000 Sydney Games, dedicating the victory to his mother, who died on the day of the opening ceremony. At the 2004 Athens Games, he finished 11th.

Star Trek Online Game Trailer

This is a good period of time for game lovers. Some very interesting games are about to come out. Spore is supposed to be launched in September. There's also LOTR: Conquest, and now you can also enjoy the trailer for Star Trek Online.

Set in the year 2409, Star Trek Online will allow players to immerse themselves in the future of the Star Trek universe, exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations. Players will be able to command a starship as a Federation or a Klingon Captain, outfit it with custom systems and recruit - and more.

South Park Guitar Hero

This is another very good South Park episode - this time about Guitar Hero. Actually it's a bit more sad that it is funny. I don't mean to say that playing a real guitar is better than playing Guitar Hero. It's really a matter of taste.

It just seems like the old is really submitting to the new - sometimes without a real fight. I am all for the new and cool - but it doesn't mean we should throw away the classics.
