Anonymous VS Scientology: A Call for Action in Boston

Here we are - yet another video by Anonymous (although the YouTube user isn't the same one as in the previous videos). This time the call for action is less cryptic and more to the point.

I wondered what is the meaning of February 10th, and Anonymous provided an answer. They invite "Boston area residents who are affiliated with Anonymous. Mark the date of February the tenth on your calendar. On that date we will congregate at 448 Beacon Street, Boston Massachusetts, at eleven a. m. to participate in the worldwide protest of Scientology".

Anonymous recommends bringing masks - thus protesters can avoid being identified. The demonstrations are supposed to be worldwide. I sincerely hope this is not a publicity stunt by some very sophisticated large company.

It also has been said that the Scientology cultists have struck back and that the main Project Chanology site is now down. Hard to say which is the MAIN site, because there are several interesting references to it. You can see one here.

Anonymous VS Scientology: Act II

No time to rest. The first video of Anonymous attacking Scientology barely managed to sizzle through the net, and now they have another one:

Seems like the guys of Anonymous feel the need to further explain themselves, and to put an emphasis on their threats to destroy Scientology: "It has come to the attention of Anonymous that there are a number of you out there who do not clearly understand what we are or why we have undertaken our present course of action", they say.

"
We want you to know about Lisa McPherson. We want you to know about former members of Scientology's private navy, SeaOrg, who were forced to have abortions so that they could continue in service to the church. We want you to know about Scientology's use of child labor and their gulags", states Anonymous.

They also give a date of action: "
Be very wary of the 10th of February". What will happen that day? Let's wait and see. This is going to be very interesting.

The Kitten that Likes Playing Fetch

I have never seen a cat playing Fetch, unless you consider "fetching human toes" as fetch (what is it with cats and toes?!).

Anyway, this kitten here wants to play endlessly. Sweet:

Destroy the Sites you Hate

There are sites that can really annoy the crap out of you. I'm sure you all have sites you hate.

Netdisaster has a cool solution for you - destroy the sites you despise!

All you to do is enter the URL of your favorite hated site, choose the kind of disaster you wish for it (meteors, wasp attack, floods etc.), and sit back and enjoy the mayhem.

Anonymous VS Scientology

This creepy-yet-cool video has popped up in YouTube, following a massive onslaught on Scientology and its sites.

The video has been recorded by a group calling itself Anonymous, who seems determined to wage war against Scientology. In the clip, Anonymous is bashing Scientology with sayings as "Your methods, hypocrisy, and the artlessness of your organization have sounded its death knell".

What exactly is planned by Anon is unclear, but the battle has obviously began. The first step was probably the distribution of the Scientology secret files (click here for torrent). The second step was the DOS attacks on Scientology sites. This clip is the third step. I'm curious to see what would come next.

Keep Your Stuff Safe

This new, free site, offers a neat idea: keep a secure inventory of your possessions - so you'd know what you lost in case of theft or disaster.

Using StuffSafe, you can keep track of unlimited rooms or storage units and generate PDF or Excel reports that summarize your possessions.

From the site: "The best home inventory is not worth much if you can't find it after a fire, flood or other disaster. And keeping your inventory on your home computer is fine until it gets stolen or destroyed".

Amy, time for rehab... No? No? No?

The Sun published an exclusive claiming that "WILD AMY WINEHOUSE was filmed blitzed out of her skull and struggling to talk after sucking in crack fumes from a glass pipe". In simple words, The Sun claims it caught Amy Winehouse smoking crack.

Here is the video, which quickly became highly popular in YouTube (big surprise):

Winehouse isn't a newbie when it comes to trouble, media buzz and gossip. In October 2007, Winehouse and her husband were arrested in Norway for possession of cannabis. The couple were later released and fined 3850 Norwegian kroner; In August 2007 the singer and her husband were photographed bloodied and bruised in the streets of London after a hotel room fight allegedly started when, according to the singer as quoted by a tabloid newspaper, she was spotted by her husband doing drugs with a call girl.

Since her rise to fame, Winehouse has denied having bipolar disorder, but admitted to having eating disorders and depression and self-harm.

So, if this video is legit, maybe it IS time for that Rehab, no? No? No?

"It's better to burn out than fade away"

The death of the young and talented Heath Ledger came as a big shock. Ledger, best known for his role in "Brokeback Mountain" was 28 years old. He was found in his SoHo apartment with a bottle of sleeping pills near him.

The police does not suspect foul play. The Associated Press reported that his father, Kim Ledger, called his death "tragic, untimely and accidental". It always is, isn't it?
It's always a tragedy when a life is lost. It seems like a bigger tragedy when that life has been young and successful.

Ledger, of course, isn't the first star of our generation to die young. First that came to my mind was Kurt Cobain, who was lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for the rock band Nirvana.

On April 8, 1994, Cobain was discovered in the spare room above the garage at his Lake Washington. A shotgun was found at Cobain's side. Cobain's death certificate concluded his death was a result of a "self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head". The report estimates Cobain has died on April 5, 1994.

There was also the lovely and talented River Phoenix, who died on October 31, 1993, at the age of 23. Phoenix overdosed on heroin and cocaine. His death is considered one of show-business's most shocking and tragic - especially because no one could see it coming. Phoenix has been quoted as stating that "I don't want people to forget me". I guess he got his wish.

Another famous heroin-related death is that of Sid Vicious (John Simon Ritchie), who was an English punk rock musician, the bass player of the Sex Pistols. On February 2, 1979, during a small party that was meant to celebrate his getting out of jail on bail, he obtained some heroin and overdosed. Though he was revived, he then fell asleep and died in his sleep. New York Chief Coroner Michael Baden explained at the time, when a person has an accidental heroin overdose, and then falls asleep, their heart slows with every REM phase.

Famous guitarist Jimi Hendrix was found dead on September 18, 1970, in the basement flat of the Samarkand Hotel in London. His death was never fully explained. The assumption is that he died in bed after drinking wine and taking nine Vesperax sleeping pills, then asphyxiating on his own vomit. Hendrix was 27 years old at his time of death.

Legendary film star James Dean has also found his death in a very early stage. Dean has died on September 30, 1955, in a head-on car crash. He was 24 years old. Dean was driving a Porsche 550 when he had the accident. Since his death, his car became infamous for being the vehicle that killed not only him, but several others in the years following his death. In view of this, many have come to believe that the actor's vehicle and all of its parts were cursed.

The murder of the famous rapper Notorious B.I.G. (Christopher George Latore Wallace) took place about 11 years ago. On March 9, 1997, Biggie was killed by an unknown man in a drive-by shooting in Los Angeles, California. He was 24 years old. His double-disc set "Life After Death", released two weeks later, hit #1 on the U.S. album charts and was certified Diamond in the year 2000.

All died young, at the peak of their careers, with what seemed like many more years of glory and stardom. For them, it wasn't meant to be. Cobain wrote in his suicide note: "It's better to burn out than fade away". Whether they wanted to die or not, that's how they will remembered - beautiful, glorious, shining stars. Forever young.

So, who wiped RIAA out?

RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) has certainly made itself one of the most hated organizations on earth.

I'm guessing this means that a lot of people will be happy to hear that the RIAA site has apparently been wiped out by unknown people, hackers or mysterious entities from outer space.

According to TorrentFreak, it all started when a Reddit user has posted a link to a slow SQL query in RIAA's site. Soon after that, and with the help of Reddit users, apparently, the site has completely vanished (first it lost all of its content and appeared more than half empty, though) and has not returned online until this very moment.

*** Please hold on while I wipe away my tears ***

RIAA's tactics have been to sue anything with a heartbeat that ever listened to music they might suspect as pirated. The latest news were that a Judge ordered RIAA to Pay legal fees to falsely fccused lawsuit target - the Second Such Ruling.

Let's hope they DON'T have backups. Too bad their law suits keep coming in.

Star Trek XI Trailer

Although Star Trek movies haven't been a big hit lately, every new one triggers speculations and discussion. Star Trek XI is being directed by J.J Abrams, and very little is known about it.

The first teaser trailer of the Star Trek XI is out, but it doesn't reveal much. Still, it's a trailer, so there ya go:

All together now!

I love useless sites. The kind you can waste 5 minutes on, and then forget they ever existed. I suspect this will be the fate of this new site - Muxicall.

The object of this site seems to be "make some noise". You enter it, choose a user name and get access to a grid that enables you to play "music". You can choose to play the piano, strings or drums, and then you can randomly click on the buttons and have fun.

The catch is that EVERYBODY gets to do it at the same time. So, there's a lot of noise and mess, and it's quite amusing. Rather like hearing the neighbors' son practicing on his piano - only you get to make some noise in return.

Yet another "collaborative" site that will vanish in the blink of an eye. Have fun, that's all that matters.

>> Get some real music

Missing your Pandora?

Those of us who don't reside in the US of A, were recently robbed of one of the best music sites on the net - Pandora. About a year ago, the owners of Pandora (an automated music recommendation and Internet radio service created by The Music Genome Project) claimed that they cannot afford the payments they need to make for royalties, and closed the service to surfers outside of the USA.

There many ways to connect to Pandora from outside the US, but it's not very convenient, and people who are not very technology-oriented found those ways (proxies and such) to be extremely difficult.

There are also many sites who claim to offer you a personalized music experience, but none really matched the qualities of Pandora, in my humble opinion. Those include last.fm, deezer and MeeMix, which was a real disappointment. If you wanted free music online, you were left with choices like SeeqPod - which is cool, but hardly personalized - or FilterMusic - which is a list of internet radio stations, albeit a very good one.

To make a long story short - if you miss Pandora like I do, and can't connect directly, you will love GlobalPandora - a simple site that allows you to connect to Pandora from anywhere on the globe - and it's the real thing. I'm not sure how long this site is going to hold on, but hey - Enjoy it while it lasts!

What David Lynch has to say about the iPhone

Here's what David Lynch says about watching movies on the over-hyped iPhone:

I love this part: "You'll think you had experienced it [the movie] but you'll be cheated. It's such a sadness that you think you've seen a film on your fucking telephone. GET REAL".

An Excellent New Torrent Search Engine

A new BitTorrent search enging is out - YouTorrent.

It claims to be the world's first real-time torrent comparison search engine.

YouTorrent searches 12 sources at the moment, including Mininova, The Pirate Bay, NewTorrents, SuprNova, IsoHunt, Monova, MyBittorrent, BitTorrent, LegitTorrents, SeedPeer, Vuze and BTjunkie.

The engine returns results rather quickly, and you can sort them by file size, number of seeders, date added etc.

I ran the search "smallville s07" and got a nice set of results. You also get a list of related results, in case you didn't find what you were looking for, or just feel like browsing. There's also a list of Top Searches (right now it's "I am Legend" at the top). The site hosts no torrent files.

Probably the Best Way to End the Year

Divers always enjoy meeting interesting animals underwater. Personally, I don't wait for the big ones (like turtles or sting-rays). For me, even staring at some amazingly-purple Fridman's Dottyback, is a lovely experience. You can see very interesting things in every dive. They don't have to be big or exotic, you just need to open your eyes and LOOK.

Still, there are times in which mother nature grants you her favor, and you get an experience of a lifetime. And this is what happened to me at the end of 2007.

A diving safari in Ras Mohammed, Sinai. December 29th, early morning, first dive of the day. On our way to the so-called Sarah H. wreck, we encounter an amazing group of about 40 dolphins. We quickly jump into the water and spend a magnificent quarter of an hour with these incredible creatures. Words can hardly describe the feeling, and not even this video can explain how utterly lucky we have been. Still, this is how it looked like, and it is probably the best way to end 2007:
